On average, 13% of the daily featured artists are female and 86% is male (1% is labeled as N/A). One of the things I’ve done, is that I looked at all the distinct artists who entered Spotify’s daily chart, and calculated the division between female and male artists on a daily basis. What’s the division between male and female artists?ġ30 female artists managed to reach the charts whereas 565 male artists made their way to the top. Which is an equivalent of 2159 distinct tracks.The dataset contains 722 distinct artists.448 daily Spotify charts which includes the main artist of a song, the name of the track and the amount of streams per track - on a daily basis and just Dutch streams only.Simply because there’s just so much to examine which artists managed to get the most tracks into Spotify’s chart? Can we figure out which artists managed to maintain a high position for a longer period of time? What’s the division of genres within the chart? How many different tracks enter Spotify’s chart on a weekly or monthly basis? As you can imagine, there is enough to explore.Īlthough these questions are equally interesting, I was more interested in the division of female and male artists within the Dutch Spotify chart.Īll the more reason to retrieve a dataset and to do some further research! I’ve managed to extract 448 daily Spotify top 200 charts via a web scraping method, which I’ve used to further examine my main topic of interest for this article: the division between male and female artists in the Dutch Spotify chart.
